Environmental Policies

DWA understands that the environment has a delicate balance and it is our responsibility to protect it to the best of our ability.

In doing so we have pursued and adopted several ways of reuse, limited use, and using environmentally safe products as listed below:

Expired carpet and carpet padding - Sent to manufacturers for use in padding carts that haul delicate items such as computers, glass, furniture, etc. Another use is in bailing rags to ship overseas.

Booth identification signs, cardboard, and shrink-wrap - Picked up after an event and taken back to our facility for processing through our recycler or sent through the event facilities recycle program if they have one.

Graphics and signs - Event graphics and signs that cannot be reused are given to schools or a school supply house for students' use in art or other projects. Graphics that can be reused are inventoried and stored for future use.  We use a water based ink for our signs and graphics.  Soy based ink is not available yet for our printers.

Metal sign hooks - Picked up from the floor after an event with a magnet and reused.

Aluminum & metal - Extension poles, uprights, bases, MDS (aluminum display system) etc. that are damaged beyond use are sent to an aluminum or metal recycler.

Vinyl PVC - This is mainly used for topping tables and after an event it is rolled up, bailed and sent through Oregon Convention Center's recycle program.

Wood Pallets - Left over pallets after an event are brought back to our facility and reused for other events or sent to a pallet recycler.

Magazines and paper - DWA minimizes consumption of paper and paper products by providing online ordering, emailing exhibitor kits, emailing correspondence, and faxing directly from the computer. We utilize paper recycle bins by all employee's desks, copiers, & printers. All paper and magazines are sent through our recycler.

Carpet and drape cleaning - Carpet cleaning products are citrus base and laundry detergents are non phosphorus and are 100% biodegradable.

ForkliftsDWA uses propane powered forklifts and manual push carts for moving freight and equipment in the warehouse and at show site.

DWA buildingOur 60,000 square foot warehouse and office space has been retrofitted in 2004 with the latest energy efficient lighting. Our building was built in 1946.

DWA Warehouse recycling and waste management - In order to reduce delivery and pick up trips to our warehouse by our waste management company we switched to a 40 yard drop box.  DWA disposes of all materials that are not on a recyclable program at our warehouse into this drop box. The drop box is picked up when full by our waste management company and sent to a recycling center and sorted for recycling. On regular mixed loads the current recycle recovery rate is 52% to 55%.

Further information on procedures, policies, or products used is available upon request.
